![]() ![]() Īs an indentured servant, Gideon was given into the care of Marshal Crux, who she quickly grew to hate bitterly for his coarse and domineering attitude. ![]() This mass-extinction doomed both the House, having no ability to secure a new generation of necromantic children, and Gideon, who could not be allowed to leave the planet with her knowledge of the state of Ninth House. ![]() One year later, Gideon was one of only three children to survive the "creche flu," a supposed virus that swept through an entire nursery of Ninth children. At a loss, the Ninth House decided to raise Gideon as an indentured servant, making her property of the House and intending to have her become an oblate to the Locked Tomb. The nun-adepts and necromancers were only able to pull the words "Gideon! Gideon! Gideon!" from her mother's ghost, and so she was named Gideon. They tumbled down the ravine at the center of the Ninth Planet despite there being no record of her in the prison above and her having no ability to survive the entry from the atmosphere without a shuttle.
